Yard Sale Finds 06.25.10

June 26, 2010

We spent a good portion of our morning browsing some Museum District yard sales and choking at their prices. A lot of sales were unreasonable today, with shoes at $10, skirts at $5 and watches at $10! If we wanted to pay consignment store prices, we’d go to a consignment store! However, towards the latter half of our sales, we started finding some pretty solid finds at very reasonable prices, shew! Otherwise I was scratching my head with what to post for you lovelies.

Solar Light, $1

I got two of these solar powered lights for just a dollar a piece. When I arrived home tonight, they were lighting my front step, while my porch light was not, thus already paying for themselves!

Drink Dispensers, $8

For my wedding, I purchased a beautiful glass drink dispenser, it was a steap purchase at $80, but well worth it I thought for many years of duty. Turns out, I broke it within the first year, and broke my heart too!! So when I saw these non breakable metal ones, I knew I had to have them!
(Editors note: yes that is my brand new glass mosaic tile backsplash installed in the background!! grouted just today!! photos to come!)

Cheese Cutter, $1

I got one of those handheld cheese slicers a few weeks back, but forgot that I don’t really like how they slice, since they kind of curve the cheese out. These flat lever slicers perform so much better!

Shel Silverstein Books, $1

Where The Sidewalk Ends, was my favorite book as a child. Though, I’ve never actually owned a copy, until today! The Giving Tree, is an extra find, with such a sweet sad story $1 for literary pleasure.

Necklace, 50 cents

You can never go wrong with pearls, or fake pearls even.

Bathroom Light, $1

The light in my bathroom is hideous!! I think it is original to the house. So when I came across this much newer and nicer one, I thought for $1 lets fix that eyesore!

And now, drum roll please!! The Yard Sale Find Of The Week!!

Fancy Yarn & Knitting Calculator, $5

I wasn’t going to purchase the yarn that this quirky seller mentioned having not brought out yet. But then we got to chatting, and she pulled out a giant bag filled with skeins of HIGH QUALITY yarn. Apparently she is some renound Knitter who teaches classes, writes for magazines and sells her goods for thousands of dollars (no kidding).
So when I saw these cashmere’s and wool mohair’s, I fell in love. I believe just the white yarns pictured are worth $45 alone, and they’re just the mohairs, so I imagine the rest of them all being cashmeres puts this super value find straight into the yard sale find of the week!
